O grupo de clérigos do Estado Islâmico (ISIS), encarregados de interpretar a sharia, promulgaram uma fatwa (decreto religioso) que ordena “matar os recém-nascidos com síndrome de Down e deformidades congênitas e os deficientes menores de idade” em todo seu autoproclamado califado.

Segundo informou o jornal espanhol ‘El Mundo’, a denúncia foi feita por um grupo de ativistas que de forma clandestina tratam de difundir de Mossul as atrocidades do Estado Islâmico, como a doutrinação de crianças em campos de treinamento a fim de convertê-las em jihadistas e potenciais suicidas, a compra e venda de cristãs e yazidis como escravas sexuais, o assassinato de homossexuais e a crucificação ou decapitação de cristãos.
O decreto foi promulgado por Abu Said Al Jazraui, de nacionalidade saudita. Segundo os ativistas, já foram assassinadas cerca de 38 crianças entre uma semana e três meses de nascidos. Para assassiná-los, os terroristas usaram a asfixia ou a injeção letal. A maioria dos bebês eram filhos de jihadistas estrangeiros com mulheres da região.
Em fevereiro deste ano, o Comitê de Direitos da Infância da ONU alertou que o grupo liderado por Abu Bakr al Bagdadi usa crianças deficientes em ações suicidas e como escudos humanos.
